El camino a casa

Story

Salí de la casa de mi amigo Pedro muy tarde. Era de noche. Quería volver a mi casa, pero no sabía dónde estaba el camino.

I left my friend Pedro's house very late. It was night. I wanted to go back to my house, but I did not know where the path was.

Antes, este camino me gustaba mucho. Ahora todo me parecía nuevo. No veía a nadie. No había gente, no había nada. Sólo la noche y yo.

Before, I used to like this path a lot. Now everything seemed new to me. I could not see anyone. There were no people, there was nothing. Just the night and me.

Fui por un lado. Pero no era el camino bueno. Volví. Después fui por el otro lado. Otra vez, no era el bueno. Lo mismo.

I went one way. But it was not the right path. I turned back. Then I went the other way. Again, it was not the right one. The same thing.

Después de mucho tiempo, vi a un hombre. Hablé con él. "Por favor, señor, ¿sabe usted dónde está mi casa? Yo estoy aquí, pero mi casa es por allí. No sé. Es muy tarde y mi madre está en casa, sola. Hoy no es un buen día para mí."

After a long time, I saw a man. I spoke to him. "Please, sir, do you know where my house is? I am here, but my house is over there. I do not know. It is very late and my mother is at home, alone. Today is not a good day for me."

El hombre me miró. "Hijo, esto no es tu camino. Tu casa está por el otro lado. Mira, ve por aquí, y luego por allí. Después vas a ver tu casa."

The man looked at me. "Son, this is not your way. Your house is on the other side. Look, go this way, and then that way. After that you will see your house."

"Muchas gracias, señor", le dije. "Es usted muy bueno."

"Thank you very much, sir," I said to him. "You are very kind."

Fui por donde el hombre me dijo. Y sí, vi mi casa. Era la mejor cosa de la noche. Ahora sólo quería estar en casa. Nada más.

I went where the man told me. And yes, I saw my house. It was the best thing of the night. Now I just wanted to be at home. Nothing more.

Mi madre me vio. "Hijo, ¿dónde estabas? Es muy tarde."

My mother saw me. "Son, where were you? It is very late."

"Después te digo todo, mamá. Ahora sólo quiero estar aquí."

"I'll tell you everything later, mum. Right now I just want to be here."

Mi madre no dijo nada más. Me miró, como siempre, y todo me pareció bien otra vez. La casa, mi madre, el tiempo, todo.

My mother did not say anything else. She looked at me, as always, and everything seemed all right again. The house, my mother, the time, everything.
