Rester se conjugue avec être aux temps composés : il est resté, elle est restée. L'impersonnel il reste + nom (there is/are left, there remains) est très courant : il reste du pain (there's bread left), il reste peu de temps (there's little time left).

Rester sur + impression ou sentiment exprime une impression persistante : je suis resté sur ma faim (I was left wanting more, literally I stayed hungry). En rester là (to leave it at that, to stop there) : restons-en là pour aujourd'hui. Rester debout (to stay up, to remain standing), rester silencieux (to remain silent) - rester + adjectif décrit un état maintenu.
