Grand est un adjectif BAGS qui se place avant le nom dans son sens figuré (un grand homme = a great man) et après dans son sens physique (un homme grand = a tall man). Cette distinction de position est importante : un grand homme (a great man) vs un homme grand (a tall man).

Grand-chose (much, in negative sentences: pas grand-chose = not much), grand-père (grandfather), grand-mère (grandmother), grande surface (supermarket, hypermarket) - grand entre dans de nombreux composés. En grand (on a large scale, in a big way) et au grand jour (in broad daylight, openly) sont des locutions adverbiales. Voir les choses en grand (to think big) est une formule encourageante.
