Con is one of the most common French vulgarisms, used both as a noun (an idiot) and as an adjective (stupid). It's much more casual than its English equivalents - close friends use it affectionately ("t'es con!") and it appears constantly in informal speech without quite the bite of "dickhead". Still vulgar; avoid in professional contexts.
The feminine form conne exists but is less frequent. The expression a la con ("rubbishy, half-arsed") is fixed and very common: un truc a la con - "a stupid little thing". Also vieux con - "old fool" - and connerie - "stupid mistake, bullshit".
