Chaud est un adjectif dont la forme feminine est chaude. Il decrit la temperature elevee d'une surface, d'un liquide ou de l'air. Avoir chaud (to be hot/warm) et faire chaud (to be hot - weather) sont les constructions idiomatiques, contrairement a l'anglais qui utilise to be avec le temps.

L'avoir chaud ou avoir eu chaud (to have had a close call) est une expression figuree de frayeur. Chaud devant ! (hot stuff coming through!) est un avertissement en cuisine. A chaud (in the heat of the moment) et a froid (coldly, in cold blood) contrastent l'impulsivite et la deliberation.
